A great thing to get a plant lover at Christmastime is a Christmas cacti. These plants are easy to take care of and they are a great addition to poinsettias at Christmas.

These are much different than your run of the mill cactus. These plants come from the rain forest verses the desert. With them being from different places they are use to different environments and should be treated different.

Pineapple Plant-How To Grow One

Peperomias

Peperomias are low growing foliage plants. These plants have thick leaves and they grow less than 12 inches tall. Allot of people like the wrinkled-leaved varieties of the paperomia. Some of these would be the Emerald Ripple, Little Fantasy and the Tricolor. The Emerald Ripple gets to be 3 to 4 inches tall. Bugs That Affect Houseplants

Houseplant Diseases can cause a lot of problems for your houseplant but another thing that can affect it and cause your houseplant to look poor is bugs. There are many different kinds and they all affect your plant in a different way. The whitefly is one of the bugs that can affect your plant. If you shake the plant and and you see a waxy, white bug flying around the leaves that is probably what you are seeing.
Aphids are like the whiteflies but they move slower and they are green or yellow and they cluster, and they are more rounded in shape. Mealy bugs are are powdery insect that cluster on the underside of the leaves, they create small sacks that look like wet cotton. Read the rest of this entry »
